Distance from Shanghai: One hour (or a little over) drive from Shanghai centre. Traffic advice: If driving, use the inner ring road or the S20 to join the final road there. Don’t take Wuning Road from Jing’an or you’ll sit in traffic for an hour.

Hotel: This is a must visit family-friendly hotel. The outdoors area is truly huge — you can spend hours there, walking, biking, fishing, feeding the peacocks, goats and rabbits, climbing and much more.
Inside the hotel, the food is really good all through the year. They pride themselves on their crabs, so in October and November, it’s the ideal destination for crabs plucked right from Yangcheng Lake.
They have a kids play area suitable for ages 2 to 6 inside the hotel, a nice outdoors pool, outdoors playground, and absolutely enormous outdoors farm type land. You could spend hours and hours there, walking, biking, feeding sheep, rabbits and seeing peacocks, playing with the remote controlled boats, climbing, cooking… you get the idea!
Rooms: It’s not that mecessary to pay more for a lake view. You’ll be out of the room for most of the time, busy with the farmland. Rooms are very nice and spacious for families. If you can splash out, the Presidential Suite has a big balcony, perfect for a quiet night escape or alternatively for an amazing terrace party, away from busy Shanghai.
Overall: A perfect family weekend getaway from Shanghai. Kids get to feed animals in an open outdoors environment and inside the hotel, it’s comfy and the service is really good. What’s not to love?
