El Willy is recognised as one of the best in China. Since Chef Willy came to Shanghai several years ago, it was a case of branding and food success.
Instead of the stuffy fine dining places with high set menu prices, El Willy stood for fun, lower prices and exciting food.
So for Date Night, it’s a fun and lively place, with rich tapas, paellas and Riojas.
Yet it’s also welcoming to (well-behaved) kids. If your kids are over 5 or so, especially if nearer 10, then it’s an interesting experience for them to dress up for a fancy family eating outing, to enjoy really good food. We booked at 6pm so it’s more kid appropriate.
The Chef even came out to ask if the kids needed anything simple, like spaghetti.
Two people can eat well there for around ¥800 plus drinks. A family of four might get to ¥1,000-1,500 and still have some to ‘da bao’ for the next day at home.
Telephone 5405757, it’s at 22 South Bund – right next to the SOHO 3Q building which is perfect to park your car in for El Willy.
